Tassie boys Luca Brasi have had a whirlwind of a year. To chuck the cherry on top of their success, they bring to you their new album STAY and a fresh set of Australian tour dates. I shot a few questions at drummer Danny Flood to get the ins and outs of what’s in store over the not too far off future!
What can Luca Brasi fans expect from the Stay tour?
We want to really add to what we already do with our shows. We want to incorporate
the theme of the album into the presentation of the stage/lighting and vibe of the
room. Oh, and playing all the bangers!
What aspect of touring are you most looking forward to?
Catching up with all our mates and family in these cities. Beating all the boys at
Mario Kart is always a highlight and just reconnecting with our fans as they’re the
reason we are able to do what we do.
What’s a go-to activity you like to do when you find yourselves in Adelaide?
I spent a week in Adelaide towards the end of last year tracking drums for the new
record, and this is going to sound really lame but I trained most mornings at Crossfit
Mode. Being a personal trainer, I’ve got to do something! It’s a highly decorated and
professional gym. For any of you Crossfit nerds, myself included, James Newbury
I noticed you guys worked with Jimmy Balderston of Ghostnote Studios again
on this new album; does that mean time was spent in Adelaide recording?
Yes, so we were lucky enough that Jimmy was keen to work with us. We work really
well with Jimmy and being a drummer, his studio is perfect for drum tracking, the
sound he gets is unreal! So, I spent a week there doing my drum tracking and really
enjoyed tracking this album. Usually recording is really stressful for me. The rest of
the album was recorded at Red Planet in Hobart with Nic White assisting.
What was the inspiration for this album – what were you aiming for?
We were aiming for a really honest representation of where we are at in our personal
lives and also musically. STAY is about being happy with what you have and not
being caught up with what’s necessarily expected of you and enjoying what you have
because life is sick!
And the cover art – how does that tie in with Stay?
We worked closely with good mate Callum Preston on the art, his vision after hearing
the record was just spot on. That aged, almost retro looking nostalgia and he just
killed it. Such a lord and always comes to the party with incredible ideas and energy.
If you guys were invited by Triple J to do another Like A Version, what song
would you like to cover this time?
You’ll have to wait and see if we get the call up.

Brasi will be hitting The Gov on the 23rd of August with special guests Tiny Moving
