Calling all designers, retailers, foodies and lovers of fashion/accessories – The Gilles Street Market is on the move! After 10 years of renowned family-friendly markets, the newly titled Gilles at the Grounds will have a new home at the Adelaide Showgrounds, as of April 15th.
Located inside the Old Brick Dairy on Leader Street, Wayville, Grounds Director Jennifer Centernera and local stylist Samantha Cox have collaborated to create an eclectic style, with indoor and outdoor space. “The combination of exposed brick, natural light and vaulted ceilings adds visual complexity and a sense of rugged timelessness to the space”, says Centernera. But don’t fret, our beloved marketplace will still have that perfect Sunday vibe, with over 100 stalls, live music, entertainment and over 10 food/beverage vendors.
Thanks to a tree-lined grassed area, teepees and plenty of seating and rugs, the market will host a new dining experience – The Gilles Brunch Society. Visitors will be able to chomp on the Asian-inspired comfort food of GANG GANG or sink their teeth into sweets from Cloud Theory Marshmallows, just to name a few.
Gilles at the Grounds even has a special surprise for you hipster dudes – an install featuring clothing, a barber, vinyl records, skate/surf products and comics! What more could you want? Thankfully, Centenera, the God of Adelaide’s market scene, reassures us the Grounds will be an eco-friendly space. “Gilles at the Grounds prides itself on delivering a strong ethos to the ethical fashion movement and will continue to offer a strong preloved/vintage clothing focus, reuse/Recycle/Re love,” says Centenera.
Since the first market in March 2008, 800,000 visitors including city dwellers, travellers and market enthusiasts have embraced and supported the small businesses on offer. The new Gilles at the Grounds will therefore continue to be a go-to space for South Australian businesses to bloom.
