Review: Bruno Mars 24K Magic World Tour

Erin Gear

Bruno Mars, arguably the world’s greatest showman right now, took the stage at the Entertainment Centre to a sold out arena. The crowd, made up of quite possibly every demographic you can imagine - from children to senior citizens - were all on their feet hip-shaking and head-bopping along to Bruno’s show. Doors opened at 7pm, but the line was greater even than that of One Direction a few years ago. Most people only made it inside just in time for the support act.

But before the self proclaimed ‘Hooligan’ took the stage, Adelaide was treated to Dua Lipa’s sassy performance. Earlier, she received heat from the media for cancelling some of her Australian support shows after having emergency dental surgery, but from her performance last night you wouldn’t know - it was flawless. The crowd knew nearly all of her songs, and sang along. But in particular, her anthem for single women ‘New Rules’ tore the house down.

During the interval between the support and main act the crowd was captured by a woman in the stands truly getting down to some banging hip hop tunes. The cheering for her was nearly as loud as it was for Dua Lipa!

Bruno Mars came to the stage, alit with a funky rainbow of colours, with Finesse, his most recent single. Sporting a custom made baseball jersey, from then on his whole show was drippin’ in finesse. His dance moves we spectacularly sexy, along with his backup musicians/dancers - yes, you read that right the musicians were also dancers! The repertoire of songs he performed weren’t just from his newly released album 24K Magic, so long-time fans could enjoy previous songs like ‘When I Was Your Man’, ‘Just the Way You Are’ and ‘Locked Out Of Heaven’.

It was clearly Too Good To Say Goodbye, so he returned with an encore performance of 'Uptown Funk’. If you weren’t there, I can honestly say you missed out on a magnificent performance. In fact, I’d say it was the best performance the Entertainment Centre’s seen in the last year. Bruno Mars is continuing his tour to Perth this week before heading to Japan for the next leg of the show.
