Elder Park was decked out last Friday for FOMO 2018, which went off with a blast! Although the weather peaked making it a hot, sweaty mess in the mosh, people still pushed through (literally) to see their favourite artists. This year's lineup included Pines, Dena Amy, Nina Las Vegas, Stooki Sound, Drezo, The Kite String Tangle, Tourist, SZA, Post Malone, Kaytranada, ZHU, and RL Grime.
The festival had a great range of areas for attendees to hang out when they weren't grooving down at the stage, such as a fantastic deck out on the water for the 18+ goers which gave some pretty rad tropical vibes. Towards the back of the site, there were a bountiful amount options of food trucks that people could dig into, there was plenty of shady areas to sit, a free makeup station, Be There Beauty, where people could get their makeup touched up during the day. Glitoris, which is glitter station and the festival even provided a sunscreen station, which was a great idea and needs to be provided in more festivals and of course plenty of bars that the attendees could 'wet their whistle' at.
Now, many acts had a great controlled crowd and each act gave a fantastic performance! However, two hours before Post Malone came on for his set, people rushed to the stage and created a terrible environment to be in. Many people were being crushed, pushed, stepped on, became dehydrated, and many passed out. Yet, this is no fault of the festival itself, they showed great observation to their attendees and were providing water to the crowd, sprayed them with water to keep them cool, pulled many out of the crowd and even asked all goers to 'take 3 steps back' (on multiple occasions) to ensure the safety of the audience. Make sure when attending a festival to come fully aware of the crowd, take care of each other and remember everyone is there to have fun, enjoy yourself but not in a way that will harm others. Post Malone's set was cut short due to the incident, yet his set was amazing nonetheless.
Before Post's set, we had SZA throw such a heartwarming performance, with her melodic vocals and chill electronic beats, SZA gave us all the woman power we had hoped for! The night ended with an amazing performance by RL Grime, with the crowd jumping along to his heart pumping beats.
All in all, FOMO 2018 was a wicked way to start off the new year and we are very excited to see what next year's festival is going to bring!
