Electronic powerhouse Major Lazer have dropped a new video featuring fellow artists Travis Scott, Camila Cabello and Quavo for their smashing track Know No Better. The banger comes off the group’s new EP of the same name, which was surprise-released in June, two years to the day after their epic LP Peace is the Mission. Since then, Know No Better has been streamed more than 100 million times (good lord) and reached number 3 on the US Billboard charts for dance/electronic albums.
Directed by Phillip Andelman, whose skills can be seen in music videos for superstars including Beyoncé, Jay Z, Rihanna and Taylor Swift, the video follows a child daydreaming his way through the day. “I used to space out all through high school about being the sickest guitarist in the world to impress girls but all I could play in real life was a quarter-speed version of Slash’s solo from Sweet Child O’Mine,” Andelman says. “I thought it could be fun to do a video that married a kid’s daydream of being a Major Lazer backup dancer (i.e. the ultimate goal for any dancer out there) with the reality of quotidian ass-kickings and unbearable siblings.”
The new EP itself takes inspiration from the band’s travels to Pakistan, Cuba, South America and Africa whilst simultaneously paying homage to their Caribbean roots. The trio collaborate with artists from across the globe who share their mantra of “making the world smaller by making the party bigger,” with names including Sean Paul, Machel Montano, Busy Signal and Konshens making appearances, as well as production work from Jr. Blender, Boaz van de Beatz, King Henry and Maphorisa.
The group are hoping their new EP brings them further success, building on that established by Run Up, Cold Water and Lean On, which came third in the 2015 triple j Hottest 100.
