C’mon lads, it’s time to get out of your winter slump and get groovin’ with Umbrella Winter City Sounds Music Festival. Kicking off this Friday, Umbrella is set to transform little ol’ Adelaide into a magical winter wonderland, with a program boasting of over 300 live music events. If that number sounds slightly overwhelming, we’ve decided to help you out by letting you know our top five picks for the two-week festival!
Scouted Music Festival
Scouted Music Festival will make its debut on Friday, July 28 in the heart of Adelaide’s East End. The festival will showcase some of Adelaide’s finest local produce including Timberwolf, Ollie English, Heaps Good Friends, Bec Stevens and Electric Fields! (!!!) There will be food trucks, drink specials and an abundance of live music sprawled across five stages located at Producers Bar, Crown & Anchor and the laneway between Tandanya and Producers Bar. This is definitely not one to be missed and such an amazing opportunity to discover some of Adelaide’s greatest unsigned talent.

The lovely gems at The Porch Sessions are once again brightening up your daily commute with Tram Sessions. After receiving rave reviews at last year’s Umbrella festival, Tram Sessions is set to liven up your dull winter commute with a bunch of spontaneous live performances from some of Adelaide’s top musos.

If you’re looking for something a little different, why not take a step inside Glenside’s Z Ward for the criminally insane with experimental art extravaganza, Dark Matter. The creepy abandoned hospital is set to host a number of abstract and thought-provoking audio-visual performances with live acts, live digital projections and visual art exhibitions, hosted in the cells of the damned. There’s even DJs, booze and live tattooing by Jamie from House Of Daggers Tattoo Collective.

If you’re feening for some punk and garage goodness, then Swirl Records and Ghostnote Studios have the event for you. MONKEYHOUSE will showcase a bunch of upcoming punk rock talent, including Perth’s pscyh-rockers, Hideous Sun Demon and local punk legends, Horror My Friend. The festival is another great example of Umbrella’s mission to host events in unusual places with MONKEYHOUSE set to transform the Gunson Street Carpark for a night of punk rock frenzy.

Sights, Sounds & Soirees
Sights, Sounds & Soirees is a warehouse music festival, combining local live music and film clips directed by Flinders Uni Students, to bring a warehouse atmosphere to life with the warmth of music. The carefully curated evening is just one of Umbrella’s local initiatives to showcase students' creativity and an opportunity for Music SA Cert III Event Management students to organise a live music event. The warehouse will be transformed into a winter wonderland, with persian rugs, lamps and couches - the perfect destination for those tentative about leaving their warm and cosy lounge rooms this winter.
