Bowerbird Design Market makes its triumphant return for the eighth year. Most conveniently, it's being hosted the weekend before Mother's Day (big hint: if you're at a loss as to what to get the number one woman in your life, attendance to Bowerbird is necessary.)
Bowerbird is Australia's three day premier biannual art and design event. The brainchild of local Adelaidian Jane Barwick, the markets are self-described as an 'immersion' into the creative endeavours of some of Australia's forefront independent designers and makers, who specialise in fashion, art, and design. It's a fundamentally Adelaidian experience - not only can you take home perfect additions (plural - you can't stop at just one) to your home and wardrobe, you have the unique opportunity to meet the faces behind these creative pursuits, and personally support their business.
Reflecting the eighth year of Bowerbird, Jane says, "it's inspiring to see just how popular the event has become. What started as a passion for supporting independent Australian creatives ... has now grown to become one of the biggest and most anticipated art and design events in the country. It's the sense of community and chance to find beautiful products ... that has people flocking. A lot of heart and soul goes into every aspect, and you will always find something new."
Bowerbird have recently announced their list of stallholders, with the return of favourites such as Naomi Murrell and Ettie Ink, May's Bowerbird celebrates the launch of A/W fashion and accessories collections, ceramics, homewares and artworks. Notable stalls include woollens by Luna Gallery and Wendy Voon Knits; 100% vegan, natural, mineral-based cosmetics from Gemma Vendetta, high visibility cycling gear from Hey Reflect'o, illustrations from Kate Mason, stone and porcelain crockery from Clay By Khoa, boutique fashion label the wolf and I, and many more.
