TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a non-profit media organisation that holds annual conferences in Vancouver, Canada, in which speakers discuss cultural, scientific, and academic topics. TED is a global community, welcoming speakers and audiences alike, who seek a deeper understanding of the world. TED believes passionately in the power of ideas to change ideas, attitudes, and ultimately, the world. TED aims to build a society of free knowledge from the world's most inspired thinkers, in which people from all around the world can engage, share ideas, and build a better future with one another.
Although TED hosts several sub-conferences within the year, their flagship event (named after the current year), is the most paramount. The week-long conference typically hosts 50+ talks that run for 18 minutes, hosting a curated selection of some of the world's most prominent figures in their respective fields. Together, they share their visions, ideas, and thoughts, in an innovative and engaging manner. Although this year's speakers have not yet been chosen, the talks traditionally showcase amazing visionaries, thinkers, creators, inventors, experts, and celebrities.
In 2017, TED focuses on a hard look at the shifts that alter the way in which the world works, aligned with insights into how we can foster personal learning, growth, and empowerment. Their theme: The Future Is You, will explore scientific and psychological insights, the latest medical advances, and thrilling new inventions, questioning our present and future selves.
This year, TED will showcase between April 24-28. Although the Talk is broadcasting live through various digital platforms, it can be difficult to get the full experience from your couch on the other side of the world. However, Palace Nova Cinemas are offering audiences the opportunity to have their "curiosity sparked, mind opened and world shifted", with three community viewing experiences on cinema screens.
The event program consists of:
Opening Event (of Ted 2017): offers audiences a unique opportunity to experience the conference as new Talks are presented for the first time.
7.00pm, Wednesday May 3
$1 Million Prize Event: audiences will watch as the Ted Prize Winner receives a one million dollar reward towards an idea to facilitate global change. By investing in an idea each year, the prize accelerates progress to solving some of the world's biggest issues. The session will also feature an exclusive update from a former TED Prize winner, as well as talks from exceptional TED speakers.
1.00pm, Sunday May 7
Highlights Exclusive: this event presents audiences with a curated experience of Ted2017, driven by revelatory talks and performances, capturing the highlights of some of the most insightful, inspiring, and innovative moments of the conference.
7.00pm, Wednesday May 10
Whether you intend to watch the Talks live from whatever digital platform, or would like to experience it in a community of your peers, the Ted conference is a thought-provoking occasion that inspires, engages, and motivates - and is not to be missed.
