By now, we are all completely well aware that Radelaide is a city buzzing with creative talent. Our city is bursting at the terraces with an abundance of flourishing illustrators, designers, photographers and more. With so much local creative energy seemingly flying under the radar, we can’t help but gravitate towards crowds of awesome local artists doing what they do best.
On Friday, February 10 we headed to the East End for RAW Adelaide, who curated one hell of an exhibition, CUSP. Enduring the near forty-degree heat and extraordinarily un-South Australian humidity, we joined other likeminded supporters of Adelaide creativity at The Producer’s Bar for a night of visual art, live entertainment and (thankfully) a beer garden adorned with misting fans.
The culmination of an assortment of underground artists, plenty of creative enthusiasts and a laid back pub atmosphere served to enhance the feeling of unity, love and overwhelming support for these fresh and fierce creatives. A diverse range of budding illustrators, designers, photographers, makeup artists, musicians, hair stylists, performing artists each showcased their unique and prospering talents to an equally passionate and diverse crowd.
Among the masses of creative energy, emerging illustrator Sex Cult, showcasing her prints and tees in what was her first official exhibition. With digital images that predominantly explore ideas of feminism and sexuality - that are so often considered taboo in mainstream media - an empowering motif is evident across her works.
Also making waves in the illustration scene is Lewdala. Through finding inspiration in the many forms, shapes and repetition found throughout the natural world, he uncovered and created a mass of elaborate masterpieces. The resulting artworks are gorgeously intricate pattern pieces.
Another rising star within the Adelaide visual arts world, Stefani Josee, captures good vibes in her array of digital and paint works. Particularly prominent was her work as a self professed ‘wood tattooist’, with a range of her pieces adorning a line of decks. The creator of the hybrid illustration and drawing concept, Drawlustrations, there’s no doubt that this is one chick with multitudes of talent.
We loved exploring the latest and greatest editions to our ever thriving Adelaide art scene. Thanks to an excellent collection of predominantly new talent, chilled out vibes of Producer’s and of course the evident hard work and dedication by each artist, CUSP was a RAW-ing success.
