Alright Wombats fans, it's been two years since the release of Glitterbug and there's no doubt you've been singing 'Greek Tragedy' at the top of your lungs with tears streaming down your cheeks, but it's time to wipe away those tears because The Wombats just dropped their brand new single 'Lemon To A Knife Fight'... and it's all you could wish for.
The new track premiered yesterday morning on triple j, and we can already predict that it's going to be a huge summer hit! 'Lemon To A Knife Fight' is the second track on their fourth studio album Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, which is set to be released on the 9th of February in 2018. Frontman Matthew Murphy talked about his inspiration while writing the single:
“Lemon to a Knife Fight came around after my wife and I had a huge argument on Mulholland Drive. I'd been watching tons of David Lynch too, the song just kind of fell out of me.”
The track definitely oozes David Lynch vibes, thrown in with the classic alt-pop, ultramodern indie melodies that the band is famous for. It's no doubt that the rest of Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life is going to be just as head banging as the new single, and with the album being created over long distance writing sessions and two-week in person sessions, it just goes to show the talent that is dripping from these fellas as they continue to push boundaries in the pop industry. Murph shared his experiences while writing the album and how he found himself battling against adult life:
“I wanted to make an album that had more swagger, was a bit more laid back, something that wasn’t punching you in the face every time you listen to it. On every level, musically and interpersonally, we’re much closer. The last album was about me meeting someone and my life going upside down in Los Angeles, partying too hard and getting myself in trouble. This album is about me battling against that, trying to live an adult life. And failing.”
These Liverpool lads have repeatedly impressed fans with all they have produced, and Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life is going to be a record to add to your collection and cherish forever.
