Adelaide Fashion Festival 2016

RAD LIFE

Adelaide Fashion Festival 2016

Brooke Richardson

While most of Adelaide sits inside, inevitably awaiting Spring weather (remember the Sun, those were the days...) we turn our heads in hope at the coming warmth of October and with it - the 2016 Adelaide Fashion Festival. AFF16 will take places from 19-23 of October, showcasing both prominent and budding designers from South Australia.

The festival's focus on local design and promoting internationally has also allowed the festival to incorporate its collaboration with China, in particular, Adelaide's sister city Qingdao.

While much of the festival does still have tickets available, both Paolo Sebastian's runway shows have sold out. Never fret! The festival offers a wide range of events for any price range (including a few free market events), which is perfect for anyone wanting to get in on the action. Here are some of the highlights to definitely check out:

Connecting China Workshop

When: 20th October
Where: Electra House, King William St
Price: $20

With much of Australia's economy relying on a partnership with China, it seems only natural the South Australian fashion industry continues to strengthen their partnership also.

Australian Fashion Labels creative director, Melanie Flintoff will be one of the panels members to discuss how her business successfully works within Shanghai.

The panel looks super interesting, particularly for budding designers who want a little international business understanding.

Runway 1: BNKR

When: 20th October
Where: AFF Runway, Victoria Square
Price: $50

As an established leader in housing many of Australia's biggest designers, Rundle Mall's BNKR have brought together a show encapsulating the great Aussie brands that put them on the map.

The show is designed by Vogue Fashion Editor Philippa Moroney, and includes brands like C/MEO Collective, Keepsake The Label, Finders Keepers, The Fifth, and Jaggar.

Fashion's Future: A TAFE SA Student Showcase

When: 22nd October
Where: AFF Runway, Victoria Square
Price: $20

What a great way to give the designers still roughing it at TAFE a big ol' pile of support. The event allows young designers from a variety of different courses within TAFE's fashion school to showcase their creativity, talent, and independence.

The event will also showcase finalists for the Premier's Design Award, which will see the winner receive a 12-month industry mentoring program.

A Night Of Fashion at the Art Gallery

When: 22nd October
Where: The Art Gallery of SA
Price: from $85

A Night Of Fashion - a night in a location that perfectly highlights the relationship between fashion and art. ANOF has continued to generate large crowds eager to see the latest collections from designers over the years, this year showcasing Australian Designers' Spring/Summer collections. This year designers include Dion Lee, Carla Zampatti, Strateas Carlucci, Aje, and Bianca Spender.

Tickets for the event sell like hotcakes so get in quick!
