It's an undeniable fact that we South Aussies are proud of our wine culture and celebrate our triumphant regions by heading on wine tours, and appreciating all they have to offer.
We all love a good taste test in the Barossa, McLaren Vale and Clare every so often, but the hardest part about them is the distance we have to travel for those different wine varieties, and of course snap the obligatory vineyard group photo. Look beyond the valley no more; we're here to inform you Radelaidians that there's a little known five-star winery right in the heart of Marion's burbs.
Patritti Wines was established in 1926 with vines over 100 years old is tucked away in suburban Dover Gardens, while also owning the four acreage lot off Oaklands Road. Surrounded by homes, this winery supplies their award winning vintages and juices mainly overseas, but you can try and buy straight from their cellar doors at Dover Gardens and McLaren Vale. Patritti launched their 2015 Marion Vineyard Grenache Shiraz just in time for International Grenache Day, and while remaining a 100% family owned business, it was easy to see why they're a big hit in the overseas market.
We got to try a few of their prestigious wines including their 2015 Vermentino and 2013 Gloria GSM, but my personal favourite was the Section 181 Grenache; a smooth red with mild body and wonderfully addictive flavour. Their Marion Vineyard Grenache Shiraz was also a hit, with grapes sourced straight off their Oaklands Rd lot, where we tested the beautiful variety.
Patritti Wines Cellar Door is located at 13-23 Clacton Road, Dover Gardens open from 9am-5pm Monday to Saturday.
Check them out on Facebook, Instagram and their website for more about the winery on your doorstep. Thank you to the lovely staff and hosts for the afternoon spent at Marion Vineyard, we had a great time and will be sure to visit the cellar door in future.
