As part of Team Radelaide's RAA SA Holiday Experience, we took to the waves and had an absolute blast. Using soft 9 footer boards that perfectly suited our skills (or compete lack thereof), we were able to learn the fundamentals of surfing at Middleton beach.
The coaches from 'Surf and Sun' were brilliant, talking us through everything and instructing us on how to catch a wave and shred some gnar. While we probably didn't shred, but we were able to stand up! No matter your age or fitness level, we reckon you can do it too. This experience provides you with enough skills and knowledge to really get into surfing if you want to pursue it after the lesson, and we reckon we might.
After wading a few metres out at about waist height, we waited patiently for the perfect waves. Middleton is the ideal place to learn as there's a constant supply of good arching waves, but not too big for us amateurs. Once one was spotted, thanks to our brief coaching we knew to begin paddling while lying on the board, before springing up and trying to keep standing. While it was difficult, the majority of us were able to stand up after a few failed attempts. It's a great fun challenge to undertake in an arvo, particularly with a bunch of mates.
This experience was done through the brilliant new RAA SA Holiday Experiences, streamlining our holiday to create the ultimate experience. So you can grab family or friends and have some cracker holidays, organised for maximum enjoyment!
As the weather begins to heat up we couldn't think of a better spring/summer trip than to shred some foam with 'Surf and Sun' and your mates. Add to all of this that RAA members receive an exclusive bonus when you book any South Australian Holiday Experiences and we reckon it's time to hit the road!
