With SALA festival now in full swing (and on for the whole month of August!) trying to choose which exhibitions you are going to attend can be tricky — and overwhelming! However, with almost 5000 artists participating in this year’s event, it is easy to find an exhibition in your area or nearby.
If you’re in the western suburbs, for example, the beach is where it’s at! This year, the community of Henley Beach, in particular, has immersed itself in the festival, with all different types of venues and artists getting involved for ‘SALA ‘Round The Square’ presented by The City Of Charles Sturt Council.
Last night, on the 3rd August, the Henley Life Saving Club held the launch of SALA ‘Round The Square, with SALA general manager Penny Griggs present to officially open the area-wide exhibition. Exhibiting art from the staff and students of Henley High School, the event was a sneak peek of what is on offer around the Henley area for the month of SALA. Local Henley Beach artist, Samantha Tipler was the artist in residence for the night, and will also be hosting Adelaide art tours throughout the SALA season (for more info click here).
Henley Square encourages the public to come and experience the joy of art in all different venues — from shops to cafes, surgeries to studios — it seems that there is something to experience at every establishment. SALA is a festival that embraces all different levels of artists, from amateur to experienced, and Henley Square has a a wide variety of works on offer to view and purchase.
So, this month make sure you visit beautiful beachside Henley to view all of the amazing art on display (and for all the usual reasons — coffee and sunshine, anyone?). There will also be art tours, community chalk drawings and kids activities on for the rest of the month, so make sure you check out the Visit Henley Beach website for more details!
