A Local's Guide To Self-Love

Caitlin Tait

Whether you’re having a down day, need a pick-me-up after a kinda crappy week, or it’s been a while since you’ve had some serious ‘me time’, we have a bit of everything for everyone’s self-care routines. And self-care is important. Really.

We can’t give you a hug IRL, but we can give you this. A local’s guide for self-love. One of the ways to make yourself better is by giving (an actual fact!), and by supporting these gorgeous people and places, you’ll be helping you. Look at all this love already!

Peter Rabbit

Like I said, we can’t give you a hug right now due to the screen between us. But you know who can? Flopsy and Mopsy. The two gorgeous rabbits who reside in Hindley Street’s cutest café. Sit by the fire with a warm drink before your next stop.

While a good meal is all well and good, chocolate is really important when taking care of yourself. If you need a crepe or hot chocolate at 1pm or 10pm, Chocolatree will have you feeling cosy (literally… They have blankets) and loved-up.

Bikram yoga

Whether your local is the city, Glenelg or Modbury – Adelaide’s own bikram yoga studios will have you feeling strong (and sweaty) in no time. And as good as chocolate is for self-care, so is moving your limbs! Releasing endorphins! Happy days! Get a delish smoothie while you’re at it. Check out the timetables here and get going.

Central Markets

While it’s school holidays, the Central Markets have some fun things lined up. If you have a little person in your life who you can snag up for the day, do it. They have cooking classes, free petting zoos, face painting, craft workshops and market trails… As if looking at the face of a wee one isn’t going to make you joyful enough, mix in some small animals. The full list is here for you.

While you’re there, stalls like Goodies & Grains and Plantation Juice Co. will have you grinning, too. More good food. More local loving.

Bear in mind that these little feel-good activities are just that – feel-good activities. If you need to reach out, do so. It’s important – and brave – to ask for help.
