SA Poetry Slamming Us Out Of The Water

Caitlin Tait

If you’re anything like me, there isn't much that makes you want to leave your house when winter comes around. But we’ve got your sorted. Your calendar will be filling up in no time with delicious thoughts and words to feast your eyes (and ears) on.

Adelaide’s spoken word scene is getting ready to put on a show for us.

The dates for this year’s SA Poetry Slam heats have been announced. The first one being held on Friday the 19th of August at SA Writer’s Centre.

This could be you V soon. Cosy among your fellow Adelaidian artist pals listening to local talent.

If you have a soft spot for poetry and the voice to carry it, registrations start at 6.30pm with a 7pm start. If you’re not ready on the first heat – or you’re there to watch the magic – there are five heats in total, one on each of the following Friday nights. $5 admission. You can find all the information for those heats here

The top 10 poets in the state will battle it out for a trip to the Sydney Opera House for the National Poetry Slam. The state final will be held at the Goodwood Institute/Theatre on Friday the 30th of September. Doors will open at 7.30pm with an 8pm start, admission $15. Tickets are set to sell fast, so you can get your hands on them now to be extra careful.

Last year’s SA representative, Jason Marsiglia, did us proud and was the nation-wide runner up at the Opera House. Watch his performance from the 2015 state final to get inspired.

Get ready, Rads. You're in for a good winner of a winter.
