The Animal Welfare League (AWL) of South Australia is excited to announce that they are close to hitting their target of 3,000 adoptions before the end of the financial year.
The AWL is currently South Australia’s largest animal shelter and is leading the industry in re-homing round 12,000 lost, surrendered and abandoned animals in SA every year. Many people are familiar with seeing the AWL fundraising tents in Rundle Mall. Perhaps you have even been lucky enough to have your day brightened by one of their four-legged helpers.
To celebrate such a successful year of sending deserving animals to their forever homes, the AWL will be offering a prize to their 3,000th adoption.
Public Relations and Communications Officer & Radelaide local Alexandra Stopford said that there will definitely be cause for celebration by the time the financial year is up if the AWL can reach their 3,000 adoptions target.
“We are all very hopeful that we will be able to reach our target of 3,000 adoptions by June 30,” Alexandra said.
“This not only means 3,000 happy animals in their forever homes, it also means we would have seen a 16% rise in adoptions for this financial year which is a very positive outcome.
“By reaching this target and seeing that 16% rise, it means people are making the educated choice to adopt and not shop which is really great to see!”
Alexandra knows first hand the feeling of satisfaction that comes with pet adoption. She currently shares her home with a cheeky two-year-old whippet-cross Jade & her mischievous tabby cat Narla, both of whom she found through animal shelters.
“By choosing to adopt you are choosing to change a life and give a deserving animal a second chance at a happy home,” Alexandra said.
“And by choosing to adopt before June 30, you are creating a positive impact on animal welfare in the community while finding your new best friend and moving us closer to our goal of the 3,000 adoptions!”
Currently, the AWL is just over 100 adoptions short of reaching their goal, so to get them over the line they are offering 30% off all animal adoptions until June 30.
Anyone who has been thinking of welcoming a four-legged addition to their family, or is simply looking for a best friend forever with fur, is being urged to visit the AWL’s Wingfield or Edinburgh North Shelters. There you can visit all of the animals currently available for adoption.
You never know, you and your new pal may even be the magical 3,000th adoption.
