With this year’s amazing Comic-Con now behind us, it's time to set our sights on AVCon, which is sure to be just as action packed and exhilarating. Taking place from Friday July 15 – Sunday July 17, the anime and video game convention will be hosted at the Adelaide Convention Centre for the fifteenth time since its inception in July 2002.
AVCon will be showcasing local, interstate and international traders and artists, giving them the opportunity to show off their incredible works, as well as putting the spotlight on the fantastic efforts of cosplayers, and independent video game developers. While some cosplay for fun, others cosplay for sport, with the Madman National Cosplay Championship taking place at AVCon this year for the best dressed around. A variety of guests, panels, workshops, gaming tournaments and anime screenings will also be present for you to visit and enjoy.
With so much going on, including the huge opening and closing ceremonies, it’s easy to overlook another one of AVCon’s great events: After Dark. At the end of Saturday’s festivities, the fun continues into the night in the main hall with 18+ panels, further anime screenings and a huge quiz night that covers topics from anime, video games, manga and everything in between.
Of course, let’s not forget about the guests, with voice-over artist and director Caitlin Glass currently confirmed for this year’s AVCon. Glass has voice acted for several popular games including Xenoblade Chronicles X, Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter V, as well as anime series such as Attack on Titan and One Piece. There are other guests yet to be announced for AVCon 2016, so make sure to stay tuned to find out who else is coming along.
For anyone who simply can't wait for AVCon in July, a 'mini AVCon' will be held in Rundle Mall this Saturday June 4 from 9am - 5pm, which will feature a mini cosplay parade as well as several panels throughout the day, and a gaming quiz.
Tickets for AVCon are available on EventBrite, with day tickets for Saturday or Sunday costing $40, a weekend ticket allowing entry from Friday night to Sunday costing $60 and Gold Pass tickets costing $290.
