TGIF - Fridays After Five is back this year and bigger than ever. Tucked in the lane way between Home Grain Bakery and Maxwell’s Grocery in downtown Aldinga, you’ll find this hidden gem creating fun and festive vibes every Friday night for the rest of the summer. Fridays After Five boasts a weekend kick-starter of great live tunes, fantastic eats and exceptional wine over a sunset backdrop - and certainly delivers.
After the successful trial over five Fridays last year, we can thank Down the Rabbit Hole winery, Home Grown Bakery, Maxwell’s Grocery and Miss Gladys on Sea for bringing back this trendy must-see event this summer. Not to mention, they've made this night market/ wine bar/ street food/ live music combo family friendly, so bring the kids for a memorable Friday night.
There’ll be different food trucks every week, but when we ventured down to Aldinga last Friday we could not deny ourselves the indulgence of an original double smoked hot dog bulging with caramelised onion and jalapeños from Haddo’s Hotdogs (seriously good). For a lighter - but no less delicious option - Shredded Wrap and Roll are featuring slow roasted meats with healthy toppings, either wrapped or rolled. While the Little Pearl Oyster Caravan are serving fresh and local oysters, Chimichurri Grill are giving us a taste of gourmet Argentinian food and the job of desert comes down to Sunshine Ice Blocks for a 100% natural handcrafted ice block - plus plenty other choices for us foodies.
Of course everyone knows that delicious food needs to be washed down with a good bevvy, and that’s where Down the Rabbit Hole winery comes in. They’re serving wine and cocktails from a revamped shipping container – think fairy lights, old furniture, Persian carpet and wooden pallets for tables. You might’ve heard about Down the Rabbit Hole from this year’s pop up cellar door party in July that transformed the Old Queens Theatre and took lucky radelaidians ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’ to Gypsy Land for a night of drinking and dancing.
Live music from Joe Man Murphy kept the good vibes rolling with his acoustic mix of Celtic, roots and folk while we shopped the local SA market stalls. Goodies ranging from homemade candles from Tranquil Glow, By Gem jewellery, and unique prints and copper pots by Hello Little Walnut, were a few of the items on offer that would make for excellent Christmas gifts (because it’s that time of year again folks).
Next Friday we can look forward to music from Luke Marshall whose original music can be best described as dreamy alternative folk. Not to mention, some returning stalls and some new ones, so get down to this seaside town to check em’ out.
I don’t know about you, but we’re already counting down the days ‘til next Friday. You can keep up to date with Fridays After Five Aldinga on their Facebook page here.
