There's something about leather that gives it a tangible sense of quality. So being fans of the stuff already, last Friday we were super happy to go to the grand opening of Leatherworks Adelaide in Regent arcade. After previously having been a purely online store, the handmade leather goods of Rob Mcrae are now on full display and ready to grab in the heart of the city. The space itself is a small design studio producing quality handmade leather, the sort of essential items that you buy once and keep/love forever.
The masterful Rob McRae is principal designer-maker at Leatherworks and was formally trained in Florentine leather design at the original Jam Factory Leather studio. Take it from us, he's a lovely bloke who has created a whole catalogue of absolute gems. The warmth and friendliness of all who attended the launch is testament to both that and the quality of his craft.
"Our designs should not dominate, but simply compliment your own personal style and become the favourite item for many years."
Everything on display had a certain classic simplicity, subtle detailing and refined style that we couldn't get enough of. Essential items like wallets, passport holders and bags were on full display with guests eager to get their hands on them. Every part of the making process is done in the Adelaide studio, all material is hand cut and hand finished in artisan tradition. So with all this in mind, get on and support your local, you won't regret it.
