Adelaide’s own master of all things folk, Kaurna Cronin, has just released his debut album Glass Fool. Man, is it worth talking about.
First of all, this record has been handcrafted by Gods. With Chris Panousakis (Timberwolf) on electric guitars, Ben Zubreckyj (Jesse Davidson/Brokers) on drums and horns, and Dom Symes on bass and backing vocals – the whole thing is oozing with Adelaide talent.
The 10-track album was recorded in the most fitting of places – Byron Bay, by engineer/producer Jordan Power (Bruce Springsteen, Angus Stone, Powderfinger) before It was sent off to Sydney’s famous Studios 301 to be mastered by Steve Smart (Neil Finn, Paul Kelly, Husky, Vance Joy).
With contagious harmonies and harmonica solos that will have you grooving about, the album effortlessly flows between the tribulations of young Mr. Cronin. Each track tells the stories of his desire to roam the globe (cue a collective sigh), his Australian upbringing, the torment of relationships and a frustrating lack of creative inspiration. Sounds like the kind of stuff we can all relate to…
The first single from the album, Inside Your Town Is Inside Your Head, has received considerable airplay throughout the country this year. The tune itself pays homage to his hometown of Adelaide as it explores the idea of being passionate about creating a great cultural and musical atmosphere in the city you were born. Again, more relatable stuff (Adelaide loves you, Kaurna).
There is no doubt that the release of Glass Fool will act as a springboard for Kaurna in regards to his musical career, which is still in its infancy. In further exciting news, he was recently awarded the 2015 Folk Alliance Youth Award as well as casually bagging the prestigious 2014 APRA-AMCOS Emily Burrows Award and Best Acoustic Act at the Fowlers Live Music Awards.
After spending 2014 playing various music festivals (Australia’s The National Folk Festival, Gorgeous Festival, Nannup Music Festival and Germany’s Breminale) and securing countless shows under his belt, we can only expect amazing things for our young globe-wandering star.
Glass Fool can be purchase on Kaurna's website, iTunes or a record store near you.
