The hugely popular ASIAFEST is all set to return this year! Expanding to a ten-day extravaganza, ASIAFEST will bring an even bigger and better range of Asian culture, culinary delights and astonishing entertainment.
Set again in the wondrous Rymill park, this year the festival will run from 2nd - 11th October. ASIAFEST aims to take visitors on a journey in and out of five Asian countries giving them a full cultural experience as though they were visiting each of the countries themselves.
Festival Director, Greg Evangelou, was overwhelmed with the positive response from the inaugural 2014 ASIAFEST, which sparked his imagination and motivation to expand this year.
“Last year saw almost 20,000 people through the gates of ASIAFEST’s first year in just two days. By extending the Festival this year, we are giving more South Australians the chance to experience the richness and beauty of the Asian culture.
“We are expecting to see over 50,000 visitors across the ten day period, with plenty of new and exciting aspects to be revealed as the event draws closer,” says Mr. Evangelou.
Patrons will be encapsulated by some of Asia’s most popular countries, with China, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea and Japan again being showcased at this year’s Festival.
More than twenty of Adelaide’s best restaurateurs will be providing culinary delights through pop-up food stalls, including Ginza Miyako, Samurai Teppanyaki and Vietnam Restaurant.
“It’s fantastic that so many local businesses are keen to get involved in ASIAFEST, bringing the best of Adelaide’s authentic Asian cuisines all to the one location,” says Mr. Evangelou.
This year’s Melting Pot will take festivalgoers through the back streets of Hong Kong, as it is transformed in to oriental markets full of retail stands, Asian grocers, fruit and veg stalls and seafood shops; all set up in a traditional food court and bar setting.
“From the exotic food, to the busy Asian street ambience, and the cheap retail stalls where Aussies love to barter for a bargain, the Melting Pot aims to make people feel as if they are genuinely in an Asian market,” says Mr. Evangelou.
The 2015 ASIAFEST is also excited to introduce a new children’s program, which is an educational but fun experience where children can learn about the diversity of Asian cultures.
“School holidays coincide perfectly with this year’s ASIAFEST, so we’ve decided to create a great opportunity where children can learn about Asia in a fun manner, whilst participating in interactive activities such as origami and calligraphy,” says Mr. Evangelou.
From the success of last year, where ASIAFEST was shortlisted for the 2014 South Australian Governor’s Multicultural Award, the 2015 AISAFEST is set to raise the bar with an outstanding ten-day festival full of fun, food and culture.
