Remember when I said the fine folks at Uxbridge Kitchen were going to be bringing you something super exciting later in the year? Well, that time has arrived! On the other side of the Regal theatre, the Hamra family has opened a quaint bar called Hula Hoop.
The new suburban spot is run by Jon and Steph Hamra and their trifecta of children, Charlie, Max and George. Not only do they host Uxbridge Kitchen, a great little breakfast and lunch café, but now they’re providing a spot to catch up for after work or later night drinks and even a spot of dinner. They also really want you to feel like part of the family, making it warm and homey so you can really feel like you can relax while you sip on a cocktail. The bar also takes advantage of the adjacent courtyard and lawns, providing relaxed outdoor seating and lawn for the kids to run around on (or you can run around bare foot on it too, no one’s judging…).
Let’s be real though, you want to know what you can eat or drink here. Never fear, the drinks menu is a great selection of South Australian wines with a couple of European ones thrown in for good measure, imported beers, craft spirits, Hills Cider and a selection of classic cocktails with a hula hoop thrown on them, so to speak…
The food menu is led by highly regarded Andre Ursini, and is especially great for sharing. High on the To-Eat list is the Hula Hoop Porchetta Slider, Porcini and Mozzarella Arancinis and the Fregola with Beef Ragu. If food is also the way to you’re heart, you’ll soon be in love.
Like Uxbridge Kitchen, the gorgeous décor is all designed by the family, with Jon installing all of the furniture and the bar himself. The family is passionate about food, wine and most of all, entertaining people, and that truly comes across in their service. Head over Kensington Road way for a Winter warmer, you’ll soon be hoping to be the 4th Hamra child.
