The Dawn Of Gizzfest Is Upon Us

The Dawn Of Gizzfest Is Upon Us

Zoe Walker

Throughout this week Melbourne garage legends, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have been announcing their newest treat, Gizzfest. And what an absolute treat it is.

Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Brisbane shows were announced Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, respectively - they’ve obviously saved Adelaide as best for last.

The boys from King Gizzard have called up their Adelaide mates to create an UNMISSABLE local line-up. They’ll be joined by Adelaide’s own Dr. Piffle and The Burlap Band who describe themselves as:

“A 10 piece tribe of raggle-taggle gypsy punks playing folk music as hard, fast and powerful as their lungs and bodies are capable of.”

What’s not to love about that?

We can also expect local Adelaide rockers, West Thebarton Brothel Party. These dudes are certainly not known for playing quietly. According to their Facebook page bio:

“Fused from Adelaide’s best and fairest, the seven heads of the garage-rock hydra known as ‘West Thebarton Brothel Party’ plate up ruthless distortion and rambling percussion amongst modern hymns of sterile purgatory, social inadequacy and Australian fast-bowlers.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Locals, ‘Glass Skies’ have been called in to provide an extra dose of dreamy, psychedelic rock. All their songs are available for free download on soundcloud so get on to that ASAP.  Many other artists are on the bill including Bad//Dreems DJs.

All the aforementioned Adelaide bands can be found on Triple J Unearthed so if you haven’t heard of them, have a listen (your ears will thank you for it) and score some free downloads while you’re at it.

Even if you’re not in to the rock genre, these bands are some of the best of the best in the country right now and attendance is mandatory for anyone who appreciates some good tunes. The line-up is basically a long list of disgustingly talented musicians. See you there!
