RADelaide does Record Store Day 2015

Brad Coles

A caucus of record store owners gathered in 2007 and gave birth to what is now every hipster’s favourite day of the year. The day where rare and new vinyl record releases are made available to their ever-growing collection, Record Store Day.

This Saturday, thousands of independent record stores across every continent in the world will participate in the day, save for Antarctica.

SA has 12 RSD registered stores, spanning as far away as Ceduna and Port Pirie, with plenty happening in Adelaide.

The increasingly popular pop-up retailer Crackle & Pop Records is taking advantage of the recently-refurbished Lindes Lane wine bar with coffee, food, wine and beer on offer all day, not to mention their own diverse mix of limited releases.

As far as live music cameos go, Streetlight’s live music line-up of Emu, The Yabbies, Ghyti, Stable Vices and Gentleworms will kick off from 3pm. Hip Hop stockists Clinic 116 will have guest appearances from Delta and Dialect, while Inbound Records are likely to have some DJs drop by.

Making the most of the day is Clarity Records on Pulteney Street. They’ll be squeezing every last minute out of the day, as they look to trade for the full 24 hours. Yes, correct, these guys will be opening at 12am and not closing until the clock strikes at 12 that night.

But the fun doesn’t end on Saturday, the 8th Semaphore Record Fair & Music Sale will be held on Sunday at Bede’s Hall in Semaphore. Local record store legends Mr V Music are hosting the event and there will be 25 different record retailers involved.

So don’t despair if you miss out on Saturday, most of your favourite retailers will be huddled in the same location on the Sunday too! What a weekend. However, I’d make recommend getting in early if you want to get those precious limited releases.
