Tkay Stomps Into Town

Tkay Stomps Into Town

Aren’t we all so proud of Adelaide’s very own Tkay Maidza? She’s been killing it over the past 18 months, with the release of her Switch Tape EP and not to mention securing the 100th spot on Triple J’s Hottest 100 of 2014 with her track ‘Switch Lanes’.

So far 2015 has been huge for her. She kicked off the New Year at Falls Festival and followed that up with an unforgettable appearance at Triple J’s Beat The Drum. Next on the list was Mountain Sounds Festival in NSW and a national tour with Laneway Festival. She proceeded to back it all up with performances across the US including Austin’s SXSW as well as a few shows in Los Angeles and New York.

Any normal person would probably take a holiday after all that, but she’s just arrived back in Australia for her national M.O.B. tour, (which took no time to sell out even after adding extra Sydney and Melbourne shows).

Jive proved to be the perfect venue for last night’s Adelaide show, providing intimacy with just the right capacity as well as the balcony for prime views. Needless to say, the crowd went wild as she blew the roof off with her feet-stomping tracks. She even took the chance to take a selfie with the crowd and take a sip of some dude's drink.

Her set included major tracks like Switch Lanes, U-Huh, Imprint and her latest, M.O.B (Money Over Bitches, in case you were wondering). Of course the set wouldn’t have been complete without one of her older, best-known tracks, Brontosaurus. As she left the stage the venue screamed for an encore and she delivered by coming back with her dubstep-heavy, Handle My Ego. I think I speak on behalf of the whole crowd when I say, we only wish she’d been on stage for longer.
