Held on a beautiful night in Brighton, the latest instalment of The Porch Sessions was a night of nostalgia and darn good vibes. If you haven't heard, Porch Governor Sharni Honor hoisted the first porchy post at her own humble abode, right across the road from where the latest session was held; bringing back the mems for all involved. Adding to the nostalgic night was home-grown talent Timberwolf, who played at the first ever Porch Session, back for his second show with a ton of new experience and wisdom under his belt.
This round of Porchies brought something super special, with three local acts on the bill, moreish Moroccan bites from Moorish Bites, delectable sweeties from The Little Cake Tin, and the usual drink suspects from Hither & Yon, Dr. Pilkingtons and the cutest of cute, pink lemonade stand. Bunting, lights and deliciously hip decor galore, the secret garden was alive and vibin'.
First off the bat was local talent Ollie English, an alternative blues singer who oozed with soul and rhythm. Seamlessly mashing his bluesy tunes together using vocal and guitar techniques, his set was a beautiful way to begin the evening and set the scene for what was to come. Vocally engaging and full of falsetto, Ollie English is definitely one up and coming Adelaide dude to look out for.
Next up was Cookie Baker, a once Adel-lady now based in Melbourne who brought her best mate and music partner in crime along for the show. Throughout her set, Cookie took us on a journey from different aspects of her life, encompassing love, family, fortune and misfortune. Decked out in a vintage dress, Cookie swooned the audience with her laid-back melodies, cheeky lyrics, alternative sound and on-stage banter, leaving us feeling elated and refreshed.
Last but not least for the evening were Timberwolf, and we couldn't have been more excited. By now, the air was chilly and the delicious salty sea breeze had fluttered in, but the energy was still electric. Mesmerised by his wonderful vocal pipes and insane skills behind the guitar, I am certain the crowd forgot about the chill factor as silence fell over the audience and attentiveness was off the richter. Timberwolf's sound is similar to the likes of Matt Corby, with a ridiculous vocal range, faultless falsetto and alike emphasis on guitar licks, choice of chords and instrumentation. So, if you enjoy beautiful lyrics, clever and addictive melodies with a blues and roots vibe, you need to get listening to Timberwolf. At the end of the set, Timberwolf announced some exciting news too, filling us all in on his up-coming album to be released very soon! Awoooo!
As always, The Porch Sessions team pulled out all the stops to execute a wonderful event. We can't wait to fill you in on the next instalment.
