It’s less than one month until Christmas. So close you can almost taste that sweet sweet pavlova. I don’t know about you, but I’m trying to be organised with my Christmas shopping this year. If you want unique gifts for the special people in your life, markets are the best place. Not only will you be guaranteed to find the perfect present but you can also enjoy some food and live music while doing it.
Here’s a round up of the best Christmas markets happening over the next few weeks:
Brick + Mortar Christmas Market
Brick + Mortar Creative Retail Hub is home to Adelaide’s freshest creatives. The space provides physical retail stores for emerging artists and designers. This weekend they are hosting a Christmas market with stalls from local designers with produce, tastings and Christmas themed workshops. Try your hand at decorating snowflake gingerbread before popping over to the cafe for a coffee. Current Brick + Mortar residents include jewellery artist Erica Sandgren, designer and illustrator Pip Kruger and many more.
When: Saturday 28th December 9am – 4pm
Sunday 29th December 9am - 4pm
Where: 49 George Street, Norwood
Handmade Christmas Gift Bazaar
Flinders Street Market is a favourite city market of mine and they host many themed events throughout the year. Collaborating with Esty makers for a second year, the Christmas Gift Bazaar will feature over 100 stalls of handmade gifts, locally designed Christmas cards and tree decorations. Once you’ve gathered all your goodies visit the gift-wrapping station to eliminate the hard work. Come along for music, food and plenty of jolly Christmas cheer.
When: Saturday 5th December 10am – 6pm
Sunday 6th December 10am – 6pm
Where: 230 Flinders Street, Adelaide
Cost: Free entry
Carclew Dusk Arts Markets
If art is your thing, the Dusk Arts Markets are a must. Carclew is a multi-art form and cultural organisation dedicated to artistic outcomes by and for people aged 26 and under. The Carclew gardens will be transformed into a festive paradise with art activities, live music and food. Local artists and designers will be selling original art, prints, fashion, hand crafted jewellery and ceramics.
When: Tuesday 8th December 6am – 9pm
Where: Carclew, 11 Jeffcott Street, North Adelaide
Cost: Entry by donation
The Hahndorf Christkindlmarkt is a European-style Christmas market organised and run by C3 Church Adelaide Hills. Make use of those warm summer nights by browsing over 50 stalls of gifts, crafts and food, including Deutsche Delectables’ homemade German Christmas biscuits and décor from Hello Little Walnut. Make sure you bring some cash as most stallholders will not have EFTPOS.
When: Friday 11th December 5pm – 10pm
Saturday 12th December 5pm – 10pm
Sunday 13th December 12pm – 5pm
Where: Corner of Main Street and Auricht Road, Hahndorf
Cost: Free entry
