Ten years ago Judy Forbes had a dream. She envisioned a place where you could browse books and share a coffee, a place to come once and again. Her dream was realised at the launch of her book cafe. Located on Marion Road in Plympton Park, Once & Again offers a welcoming and fresh space for the community.
Although the cafe opened in August, the launch night was a chance for Judy to reflect and thank those who helped her along the way. Her caring nature and optimism is reflected throughout the bright cafe. Natural light pours through the large windows and inspirational quotes and local photography adorn the walls.
Once & Again provides everything good for the heart and soul. Two wooden bookcases are filled with a range of used books for sale, focusing on health, wellbeing and self-development. Potential gifts are scattered throughout the cafe. Tiny potted succulents from Hello Little Walnut hang from stands filled with OmMade Organic Skincare products and Frank Green Cups, ensuring you’ll never have to throw away another paper cup again.
Local author Gail Miller opened the evening, expressing her belief in following your dreams, while Judy’s daughters and niece stood nearby to support her. Acoustic folk duo Nikai lent their talents. The sweet melodies of sisters Soph and Britt McKay fluttered beneath the chatter, adding warmth to the already vibrant room.
What makes Once & Again different is their dedication to fostering a caring community. The worldwide Suspended Coffees initiative allows customers to purchase a coffee or meal in advance for a friend or someone in need. Any money remaining from unclaimed food or drink is donated to a chosen charity at the end of the month. Such a simple act of kindness can brighten anyone's day, and what would a cafe be without food; a simple menu of light snacks and breakfast is also available.
Once & Again’s devotion to health and wellbeing is much needed with our hustle and bustle lifestyles. In the past, they have hosted events such as mediation and self-esteem workshops, which we hope to see more of in the future. Once & Again is more than just a cafe. It is place to relax, connect and dream.
