Renew Adelaide x Vinyl Bar

Renew Adelaide x Vinyl Bar

Alana Trezise

It's almost that time of year, guys. You know, the time when Adelaide plays host to four different festivals, a bike race, a car race and all of those fun things in between. 'What sort of fun things!?' I hear you scream... Well, Renew Adelaide's latest project launch Vinyl Bar, is just one of many.

Vinyl Bar is the latest offering from Adelaide's favourite renewal team, and is situated on Gilbert Place. With a tiny little doorway leading to an upward stairwell, Vinyl Bar couldn't be more intriguing. When you step into the space, you almost feel as if you have stepped back in time to a vintage dive bar, covered in wallpaper and filled with mismatched 70's furniture.

After working together for many years, owners Bodhi and Theo decided they wanted to start up something of their own. "When we saw the application with Renew Adelaide, we were inspired to set up a business that would support the local music community". The aim of the space is to host music industry events and work with industry groups to create positive outcomes for the community. Theo says, "using our revenue streams, we would like to raise funds to support artistic development and create opportunities that may not have previously been there".

Situated in a building that hasn't been used in 15 years, its renewal is long overdue; however the renovations haven't taken away from its original charm and character. Vinyl Bar's vibe is eclectic and old school, yet modern, comfortable and super cool.

fter receiving the keys in mid September, the renovations and fine-tuning took about four months to complete. "Renew Adelaide posted this space last August and we were the lucky ones that were selected through the application process. We didn't realise how lucky we were with the original wall paper at the time but it has become a prominent feature of Vinyl", said Theo.

With a predominantly South Australian wine and beer list, and a menu comprising of local and native produce, Vinyl Bar really has ticked all of the boxes. Supporting Adelaide and being actively involved in its dynamic music community is a key focus for Vinyl, beginning with their involvement with the Adelaide Fringe this year. "We are a registered Fringe venue and have an amazing acoustic evening with Louis Donnarumma and Maggie Rutjens on the 19th Feb" says Theo, so keep an eye out for that one!

Vinyl Bar will be opening its doors to the public at 4pm this afternoon, so head on down to check it out!
