Adelaide On The World Stage

Adelaide On The World Stage

Paige Kerin

Adelaide you bloody good thing, you’ve done it again. If you haven't heard, we've been acknowledged on a world stage above every other city in Australia, with their famous landmarks and big populations and actual celebrities. Radelaide was named 24th in a list of 52 cities to go to in the World by the New York Times, arguably one of the most influential publications. From Milan to Cuba, we were among cities from every corner of the Earth to grace the pages.

What set us apart? Our ‘energetic arts scene’, with a shoutout to Adelaide Festival, WOMAD and others for making us the capital of the festival state. Also, our city’s offerings for eating and drinking out; a huge part of a city’s culture as we all know. Sean’s Kitchen, Hill of Grace, Maybe Mae and La Moka were mentioned, quite right, but we all know that only scratches the surface of the hundreds of amazing venues we have here. It’s true, we have a ‘cultured atmosphere’ here in Adelaide and we are damn proud of it.

This isn’t the first time we have been acknowledged amongst some of the World’s most famous cities. We were ranked 9th in the top cities to visit in 2014 by Lonely Planet amongst mega cities like Paris, Capetown and Shanghai. As we all know, Adelaide has undergone quite the makeover in the past few years. The new Adelaide Oval, small bar legislation, International Chef's Restaurants, new markets and food trucks are just a few of the things that have propelled us to the heights of culture we now sit at. And there’s no limit to something like that, so come on Adelaide, keep up the good work.

Changes to Adelaide’s Lord Mayor have started whispers about a loss to some of the coolest things about our city right now (bike lanes, small bar licences etc), but let’s hope they are just rumors and we keep getting cooler by the minute.

2014 was an injection of life and vitality and we here at Radelaide can’t wait to bring you the newest additions to our city in 2015. Is something or someone cool about to happen? Let us know, and hopefully we can help this city climb even higher on these lists we keep appearing on.
