Part of our team were lucky enough to head along to the amazing Ben Howard SITG sideshow at the Palais Theatre, Melbourne, and goodness - it was amazing.
As the doors opened at 7pm sharp, the sold-out venue quickly filled up with eager fans, all hoping to hear their fave Ben Howard songs, and maybe even catch the good-lookin' Englishman in person.
The evening began with Nick Mulvey, another British-born lad with talent the size of Big Ben itself, filling the theatre with beautifully versed lyrics and crisp vocals. His entirely acoustic set paved the way for the glorious music that followed, cleverly using looping and his seriously good guitar skills to create a full auditorium sound.
Shortly after Mulvey's set, Howard and his five-price band waltzed onto the stage, opening with a beautiful performance of End of the Affair and Black Flies before continuing with one of his more uplifting and well-known tracks, The Wolves.
After rewarding the respectful (and typically Australian, "ON YA BENNNYYY") audience with a few new tracks from his upcoming album, the band launched into crowd favourites Keep Your Head Up and The Fear from his debut 2011 album, Every Kingdom.
One heavenly hour of performance past, Howard left the stage with a beautifully executed and incredibly musical gig under his belt... before coming back on stage to play their encore piece, Oats in the Water. The fans went crazy, the band went crazy, and the night ended with a bang.
Be on the look out for Ben Howard's new album coming out in October!
