Everyone, this is an Adelaide event absolutely not to be missed. Do yourself, your home, and your wardrobe a favour this weekend and head to the Adelaide Showgrounds for the Bowerbird Designer Markets.
The markets offer three days of amazing shopping for a range of artisan products handmade by individual artists and designers. There are 130 different stalls so you’ll be spoilt for choice in the best possible way. There’ll be art, jewelry, fashion, furniture, body products, homewares, stationary, shoes, accessories, fragrances and more. I wasn’t kidding. All of it is creatively designed and beautifully made by the stallholders themselves hailing from all parts of Australia, including 62 stalls from here in Radelaide.
“There is lot of interest in Australian designed and made product at the moment, and the small businesses across the country that make up our thriving creative industries” said Bowerbird Director Jane Barwick.
The Bowerbird Designer Markets started 5 years ago in Adelaide, and is now directed by Jane. She told This is Radelaide that Bowerbird is “unique in bringing designers from interstate to Adelaide who have the culture of divine markets”. She said that the Bowerbird Markets “are a mix of established and emerging designers, and are a great springboard for Adelaide designers in particular who can start at Bowerbird to gain the confidence to go interstate with their work”.
You can come home with some beautiful products, or even just some new knowledge and inspiration. There will be demonstrations and workshops throughout the event, including construction demos, wreath making, kids activities and up cycling. If you’re not in the mood to learn feel free to laze on deckchairs on the lawns taking in the live music, sipping on a wine, juice, or coffee after a day of retail therapy.
If shopping isn’t your thing, there’ll be amazing food that you can enjoy while chatting to friends at the shared tables. Enjoy Abbots & Kinneys Hot Italian pastries, Maltese Street food from Archie the Pastizzi Bus, rustic vegetarian food from Let Them Eat, fresh juices made by Juice Junkies, fresh roasted coffee and more.
With Christmas coming up, the markets are the perfect opportunity to get some beautiful presents for loved ones that they definitely haven’t gotten before. Even better, you can escape the craziness that is Rundle Mall at Christmas time by getting most of it done here. “People love the opportunity to find beautiful and personal gifts that aren’t mass produced, and to chat with the designer makers about the thought and care that has gone into creating every item,” said Jane.
Bowerbird is sweetening the deal by gift wrapping your presents for a gold coin donation that goes to the Smith Family Christmas Appeal. Not only are you giving beautiful, original gifts, you’ll also be supporting businesses owned and run by people doing what they love. So in this case, it’s definitely the thought that counts as well.
The Bowerbird Market celebrates high calibre design, creativity, and innovation. It’s that special kind of market that brings people of all kinds together to bond over a passion for beautiful things, especially those who are art, design and decorating savvy.
Entry is just $5 and kids under 12 are free. Shop the old fashioned way and bring some cash along because not all stallholders will have EFTPOS facilities. See you there!
The Bowerbird Design Market is on this weekend in the Stirling Angas Pavillion, Adelaide Showgrounds: Friday 4pm-9pm, and Saturday and Sunday 10am-5pm.
