Calling all music lovers! Grab your Persian rugs, man buns and flower crowns, it's time to start summer off right, at McLaren Vale’s Gorgeous Festival! Set in the grounds of the beautiful and delicious Serafino Winery, the Gorgeous Festival plans to serve up an irresistible cocktail of music, food, and of course, wine!
The Gorgeous Festival, which is the fishtail braided, barefoot brainchild of local McLaren Vale enthusiasts Alistair and Sally Cranney, was born in 2011. The aim: To infuse quality Australian music with the best local produce, food, wine and culture that the region has to offer. Drawing in crowds from all over South Australia, as well as nationally, Gorgeous Festival reaches a broad demographic of festival lovers with its eclectic mix of folk, indie pop, alternative and soul musical offerings.
Featured on the festival’s two main stages include big time favourites Xavier Rudd, The Waifs, The Cairos, and Pierce Brothers, as well as the talented Timberwolf, Little May, Kaurna Cronin, and McLaren Vale’s very own DJ Musical Sherpa… just to name a few.
...And because no festival is complete without some grub and a bevvie or two, prepare to be well fed by instagram worthy spreads from local caterers, and watered by Hills Cider, Coopers, along with some of McLaren Vale’s best wines…which we all know are pretty damn fine!
If that’s not enough to tempt your sophisticated palate, grab yourself a ticket to this year’s debut event, the Gorgeous Table. Taking place on the eve of Friday November 28, the Gorgeous Table dinner promises guests a night under the stars packed with amazing food and awesome tunes.
To delight the tastebuds, you’ll be served by six of Australia’s hottest chefs, from McLaren Vale eateries Salopian Inn, d’Arry’s Verandah, and the Ellen Street Restaurant, as well as Adelaide spots the Flinders Street Project, the Botanic Gardens Restaurant, and the Daniel O’Connell.
What about the entertainment? We hear you chant; The acoustic stylings of Powderfinger’s Darren Middleton, The Working Dog Union, and beats from The Timbers, will be there to sooth the soul while you're eating up a storm.
Also on offer at the Gorgeous Festival, the Gorgeous Market will be there, filled with vintage and antique goodies to make your nanna, and hipster pals green with envy. Speaking of green, the festival prides itself on being an eco friendly, and giving back to the community. One example is the new Barber’s Stage, with all proceeds going to the Flinders Medical Centre Foundation. Tidy that mug up and treat yo-self to a fancy new do, courtesy of the McLaren Vale Barber Shop. Of the cuts available, my personal favourite would have to be the Full Hipsterectomy: no beard, no mo and no funny hair.
So find some friends and pack the car, and head to McLaren Vale to enjoy a gorgeous day eating gorgeous food, listening to gorgeous music while sipping some gorgeous wine, surrounded by gorgeous people. Doesn’t get much more gorgeous than that.
