2014 SA Designers Showcase Presented by Renniks Hire

Saturday night saw arguably one of the biggest events on the 2014 AFF calendar come to life at the Old Adelaide Gaol. The SA Designers Showcase presented by Renniks Hire did exactly what its name entails, showcasing established and emerging SA designers, each with their own style and flair.

The night began with guests, media and fashion elite socialising in the courtyard, taking photos and having a few cheeky beverages before crowds began to move around to the main runway.

The Adelaide Gaol venue for the event was absolutely incredible, with high brick walls on either side of the runway and crisp white chairs lining each side. The fashion parade began with emerging designers, showcasing scott&scarce, Laura Jayne The Label, Millicent Elizabeth, Willow & Grace, Madeline The Label, SCK The Label, Simmone Standing and Elyse Barker.

The panel of fashion experts sat at the end of the runway, judging the emerging designers collections as they emerged onto the runway (pun intended). Among the judges were Iconic Australian Designer Wayne Cooper, South Australian Style magazine editor Jodi Nash, Attitude Magazine's Editor Tess Martin and social media expert Tania Debono

After a short break, the ready-to-wear collections from established designers Orbin Colelctive, Georgia Guy, GretaKate, casper&pearl, Chelsea Eve, Designer Duchess, Namoi, Necia, Liza Emanuele and couture from labels Malachi Empire, couture+love+madness and Jaimie Sortino were on show.

When the established designers had concluded their parades, the emerging designer of the AFF was announced. Simmone Standing The Label took out the top prize, with her all-white-everything collection, showcasing see-through net shirts, skirts and seams matched with block white pieces.

In an interview with Adelaide Now, she said

“I was actually very surprised ... I thought, ‘Did he really say my name?",

“I was absolutely overwhelmed. There was so much talent there this year, the girls are so lovely and they all work so hard. I’m just very excited (to win).”

After the fashion parades had concluded, guests headed into the courtyard once more for a wrap-up after party. Delectable nibbles from republic were on offer, whilst drinks from Wicks Estate, Coopers, Bickfords and Infused Rush were flowing. The night concluded with a surprise delivery from Krispy Kreme, adding to the excitement and delicious-ness of the evening.
