The weekend just past was a pretty perfect one, kicking off with the AFL Grand Final, beautiful weather and a fantastic show put on by Ash Grunwald at The Gov on Saturday evening.
The gig was off to a good start with Ian Collard gracing the stage in support of Grunwald, bringing blues and good vibes to the audience's ear drums, and setting the mood for what was soon to come.
After Collard's worthy opening performance, the front of the stage began to crowd and soon enough, Ash came out onto the stage, guitar in hand, ready to put on one good show. As soon as Grunwald hit the stage, he wasted no time in filling the room with his bluesy-roots sound, and encompassing bass drum. Crowd favourites Long Time and Walking, were just two of many tunes to be whipped out by Ash within no time, sending the crowd into a groove induced state of madness.
Throughout the show, Ash showed some serious skill over his musical craft, pulling out plenty of bluesy rifs, full sounds, bassy notes and a beautifully diverse tone. At the end of the gig, Ash couldn't help but give into the crowd and their requests, playing Dolphin Song before leaving the stage - and coming back for one hell of an encore. All in all, Ash and his show made for one seriously raucous night of jiving and music greatness. We cannot wait to hear his new album which is currently in the works, and hopefully it won't be too long until we get another slice of bluesy heaven.
