Admit it, you have gone to IKEA, browsed around the mini display rooms, looked at some innovative flat pack furniture, and crammed 50 wooden pencils in your pocket, all to stuff your face with some Swedish meatballs and $1 hot dogs at the end. I know I have done that.
However, let me shock you for just one second; there is more to Swedish cuisine than hot-dogs and those small fish lollies. Matt Preston (Cravat included) showed us how you can use everyday Swedish items to create culinary masterpieces.
Preston is doing a whirlwind tour through all of Australia’s IKEA’s (An allen key enthusiast’s dream itinerary) and bringing his unique take on Swedish ingredients to all of us. Heroing key ingredients that you can purchase in the food section at IKEA, Preston modernised the humble meatball into a delicious burrito, showed us how to create instant mayo, and satisfied our sweet tooth with a cinnamon bun ice cream sandwich.
Everything Preston made are dishes that you can cook at home, bringing a bit of life to your daily food routines. His glazed Swedish meatballs (pictured below) with pickled onions and a corn salsa is a fresh twist on the IKEA staple and should be one of your go to quick meals.
Come and be dazzled by Preston’s charm at your closest IKEA and let him cook for you. Perhaps you have a question about Masterchef that you have been dying to ask? The celebrity chef is basically at your disposal, answering questions left right and centre (and you can even get a selfie with the friendly giant). The award winning critic, author, and chef is as friendly as he is skilled, so come and indulge this in some treats this June and July and learn a thing or two about cooking.
