Mama Low's Glenelg - Home of $5 Meal Prep

Mama Low's Glenelg - Home of $5 Meal Prep

Chelsea Griffith

If I had a dollar for every time a bare fridge has had me driving aimlessly around Adelaide in search of something cheap and healthy, only to give up and spend $20 on a poké bowl, or $5 on popcorn chicken… I would then unfortunately have an idea of how often I’m eating out and spending both cash and calories respectively, excessively.

All I really want in those times, is to click my fingers and have chicken, rice and veggies cooked in nice herbs and spices sitting before me, and to only have to pay what it would have cost me to make it with supermarket-bought ingredients. But that’s an unreasonable expectation.

Well, it was.

Mama Low’s sits just off Jetty Road, Glenelg. Head in before 2pm to grab a lunch of chicken/beef/pork, with rice/noodles and veg, for $5. Yes, you read that correctly.

Stroll in and be greeted by one of the friendly faces, one being that of an accredited dietician and gym owner. Build your own meal to cater for your own macros, tastes or bank account. 100g of meat will set you back $3, rice or noodles a hefty $1, and veggies another whole one buckaroo.

Chat to fitness and nutrition specialist Norman for expert advice on your New Year New Me diet and exercise regime, and throw him a text to order a week of meal prep. When the cost is barely higher than that of making your own meal prep, I know I’d rather sit back, relax and attempt to talk myself into going for a run, while a specialist cooks it all up for me.

Mama Low’s also pumps out a delicious menu of smoothies, coffees and pre-made salads.

Now that you’re getting to save all that time and money, all that’s left is to do is to figure out where you’re going to buy that house that you were told your appetite wouldn’t afford you.
