Sometimes you want expensive drinks in a very fancy joint. Other times you want $6 bottles of wine on your couch watching Netflix. It’s called balance. But every now and again you want a solid middle ground of cheap-ish drinks in a nice place. Enter: 'How to drink on a budget and still remain classy' – your go to list of after work drinkeries that won’t blow your pay-check (and aren’t just the local pub).
1. Spaghetti Western
Monday – Friday, 4pm – 6pm.
Spaghetti Western manages to nail the themed bar scene without being tacky, and has become an Adelaide favourite over the past year.
Head down from 4 o’clock each weeknight for Apertivo Time and forget your work woes with $5 Proseccos, Italian beers, and Italian wines. And because Spaghetti Western know you can’t say no to free food, all drinks come with complimentary snacks (can we get a heck yeah?).
2. Le Petit Rosé Bar
Friday – Saturday, from 5pm
Adelaide Casino decided they had to jump on the laneway bandwagon, which means Station Lane is now your go-to for not one, not two, but four pretty decent bar offerings. That said, we’re interested in one in particular: Jacob’s Creek Le Petit Rosé Bar.
The Rosé Bar is the perfect for those indoctrinated into frosé culture – with updated peach and passion-fruit options for 2018. While we’re quick to admit it’s not the *best* frosé in Adelaide, at only $5 a pop it’s still hard to beat.
3. The Howling Owl
Thursday, 7pm – 8pm
If you haven’t heard of The Howling Owl, are you even from Adelaide? Despite the recent relocation from Frome Street to the East End, Howling Owl’s reputation as the city’s premier gin bar has not been forgotten.
You’ll have 120 days of after work drinks sorted thanks to their 120 gin varieties, but we recommend heading down on a Thursday for their weekly 2-4-1 gins specials. Not a gin fan? Don’t worry, Howling Owl also has you covered with two espresso martinisfor $20.
4. Lady Burra Brewhouse
Tuesday – Thursday, 4pm – 6pm
Because being a micro-brewery in the centre of the city wasn’t cool enough on its own, the team at Lady Burra want to help you kick off your after-work relaxation with happy hours from 4 o’clock, Tuesday to Thursday. Try one of their four staple beers – a pilsner, pale ale, IPA and an Irish red ale – and if you’re lucky you’ll also be treated to some in-house, roasted and spiced nuts to wet your appetite.
