If you’ve ever tucked into a good ol’ sanga only to be left weighed down by subsequent bloat, you’re going to want to listen in close. According to the latest in nutrition science, some pesky little things called FODMAPs may be the reason behind your dough induced gut ache. Luckily for the carb-inclined amongst us, the team at Bakers Delight have formulated a new loaf of bread that is made with sensitive tums in mind.
To celebrate the launch of the revolutionary loaf, we joined Sprout Cooking School and Bakers Delight for a lunchtime cooking demo at the Adelaide Central Market. Proving that bread shouldn’t be reserved for toast at brekky, Sprout’s co-founders Callum Hann and Themis Chryssidis got creative with the Lo-Fo Loaf.
Preparing romesco scrolls with tomato and basil, and zucchini pesto pasta with rosemary pangrattato right before our very eyes, it was quickly evident that the lack of FODMAPs was not going to get in the way of a tasty meal. The duo’s infectious enthusiasm and the promise of bread even had us excited to tuck into the brussel sprouts.
“But I don’t want to eat new-fangled faux-dough that tastes nothing like the real deal,” we hear you scream. Never fear fellow bread lovers, you can forget the dry and dense loaves of dietary requirement’s past, Bakers Delights Lo-Fo Loaf sees the texture and taste of the bread you love without the dreaded bloat. Delicious and nutritious, the loaf truly is the best thing since sliced bread.
But what even is a FODMAP? An acronym for Fermentable, Oligo-saccharides, Disaccharides, Mon-saccharides and Polyols, FODMAPs are a collection of sugars and short-chains of sugars that are often poorly absorbed by certain people. Long story short, if you suffer from cramping, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome or other abdominal symptoms these little guys might not be doing you any favours. Constantly evolving, the study of FODMAPs is a new area of nutrition science that we’re certain you’re going to be hearing more and more of in the near future.
