2KW Bar and Restaurant was filled to the brim for the launch of their winter cocktails and tapas, that'll have you happy the sun sets just after work's done! In the warm, cosy venue, we were surrounded by fresh fruits and ingredients which showcased the cocktails, as well as a preview of some of the food on offer in Winter on this eighth floor adult wonderland.
Our first sip of the evening was Ladies Who Lunch, inspired by the "burnside mums" that often visit 2KW for a catch-up with the gals. This cocktail marries Gin, Sherry, Rhubarb and Beerenberg Plum Jam into a symphony of smells one can only gossip over. Our next tasting was the Vencermos #2 which entails coconut rum, Agave, pineapple and sesame – I know it totally sounds like a summer cocktail but it'll accompany your lust over the beach during this weather. This cocktail reminds me of coconut gelati with the tang of pineapple that is simply delicious.
While we sipped on these lovely dranks, we got to try some tapas including some yummy Charcuterie with Roast Artichoke Puree, Lemon and Walnut Quince; perfect for a tasting board with friends with some drinks (of course). We tried their Cream Corn Polenta with Speck, Mushrooms and Chestnut which was delectable, and actually ended up going back for seconds. We also tasted the wonderfully produced 'Basa Gede' Blood Sausage with Cauliflower and Herb Sauce – let's just say South Australian produce is allllllways a good choice!
As the food went around and the drinks went down, we also had a try of 2KW's Donny's Pink Pants, named after our lad and former Premier Don Dunstan and his pink shorts appearance at Parliament House – this 'tail comes with Raicilla, pomegranate, strawberries and lime, a strong cocktail not to be underestimated by its pretty exterior.
Lastly we warmed our hearts and bellies to this doozy, The Bon Scott; filled with warm whiskey, apple, spiced syrup and butter ~ yes butter ~ we held onto this one tight so it could warm our hands (and hearts). This cocktail denotes the goodness of apple pie in a cup, bringing spice and everything nice to your winter outing.
All in all, we really enjoyed our time taste-testing 2KW's newest additions to the menu. A big thanks to Sassafras PR and 2KW Bar and Restaurant for a wonderful warm night in!
