West Beach may not be as much of a tourist attraction as Henley or Glenelg, but we can see why it's a hit among locals; clear, serene beach with a small town vibe you could only find somewhere on Yorke Peninsula. With blue waters and cute local shops it's hard not to feel at home at the end of West Beach Road, and that's how we felt when walking into the redeveloped, relaunched, and rejuvenated Cafe Salsa.
Just a quick walk from the sand or a short drive from Henley, Cafe Salsa gives an atmosphere of relaxation and excitement at once - relaxation 'cause the decor is on point, excitement 'cause your cheeky cocktail is on its way! Surrounded by bamboo, palm leaves and retro furniture that's every op-shop lovers dream, Cafe Salsa is exactly what you need after a long day at work, uni or the beach. With pops of colour, wonderful art, and smells of Italy coming from the kitchen, you'll feel like you're in a cafe straight off the Positano Coast.
We were lucky enough to head along to the relaunch of Cafe Salsa as the new owners transformed this 30-year-old West Beach landmark into the new hot spot to visit on the coast. With a twist on the old menu and reviving Italian-Australian food we all love, it has also been given a beachside sprinkle with plenty of seafood, refreshing cocktails and killer desserts. Amazing vocals filled the room thanks to Angela Tripodi, setting the scene for a glorious day to spend on the coast, sipping on Salsa Sun's and munching on flavoursome food.
From powerful flavours of crab from the Cassarecce Granchio to the perfectly cooked Lemon Pepper Calamari - this place is a seafood lover's haven. Of course we can't forget the staple Italian dishes like the wonderful crisp Arancini, beautifully executed Gnocchi Salsiccia, and the tasty, tender Scallopini Funghi. A blissful array of dishes fill the menu and it wouldn't surprise me if you took a while to pick because you're that spoilt for choice! Dishes suited for anyone addicted to pizza, pasta, seafood, meats, dessert and vegetarian food - even vegans will enjoy Cafe Salsa!
We can't go past dessert because what's life without a little sweetness? Boring. We indulged in some of the cutest little Banana Doughnuts, they were so damn tasty we'd like it Uber'd please. We also stuffed our faces in the most delicate, perfectly textured and flavour-balanced Panna Cotta we've had in a long time, it's safe to say I panna-cotta have it again soon.
Cafe Salsa is a delicious mixture of beach vibes, refreshing cocktails, decadent food and outstanding service. The wait staff, owners and chefs make the place an inviting, happy cafe that will have people from the East coming down to West Beach. Check out their website, Instagram and Facebook for more reasons to hit them up!
