The Wooden Spoon: Ice Creamery, Dessert Bar & Kitchen

Catherine Morrissy

If you’ve visited Harbour Town Shopping Centre recently, you’ve surely noticed The Wooden Spoon. You can’t miss it, a giant pop-up dessert bar in the middle of a mall. It’s bound to turn a few heads, it certainly did with me. Having opened in September 2016, this place has been enticing shoppers with its seriously decadent menu ever since. Located in the undercover area of the centre, it’s the perfect pit stop in between bargain hunting. Despite the peculiar placement of the cafe, it has a relaxed and separate feel thanks to the secluded seating area. The ‘kids zone’ also features fun activities to keep children entertained while parents can enjoy a peaceful coffee. These guys have thought of everything.

Their "Epic Shakes" are not to be missed. A two in one dessert, milkshakes are topped with either a brownie, salted caramel popcorn or fairy floss. I’ll take one of each, thanks!

They are also supporting local bakeries with their selection of waffles, croissants and other cakes, supplying 36 flavours of ice cream made in SA. And for those of you without a sweet tooth (I'll never understand), it doesn’t just stop there; they also supply a range of breakfast and lunch options including salads, wraps, sandwiches and focaccia’s.

Sit back, relax and recharge. Don’t worry too much about over-indulging, everyone knows the stress of shopping burns some serious calories, right? Head on over to The Wooden Spoon and try it for yourself, it won’t disappoint!
