“I think that when you love what you do, it really shows through in the food”.
And boy did it show through. Laughing that she’s “in the business of furniture and food, the two things that everyone needs,” last Saturday saw the launch of Kelly Kingston’s latest food related endeavour, Nice Little Things Catering Co. Choosing none other than the central CBD location of her other business, Green Edge Commercial Interiors, the range of delicacies were reflected in the space’s modern interiors. The vision to provide generous amounts of quality and locally sourced food shone through with an incredible spread of nice little things on offer. Kelly’s latest addition to Adelaide’s ever-growing foodie scene is definitely one to watch.
A night that began with champagne cocktails, it was already off to a brilliant start with an indulgent display of goodies being showcased. From delectable dips to mouth-watering desserts, Nice Little Things had us going back for more, and more, and even more. We sampled flavours from pulled pork sliders to Oreo truffles, which were all wholesome and handmade. And don’t fret, the company catered for all and any dietary requirements! Amongst the spread, we feasted on a variety of absolutely delicious gluten free, vegetarian and vegan treats. Beautiful floral arrangements by Flora Botanics complimented the natural quality of the foods. Her drive and passion clearly showing through in the night’s sheer range and quantity of food, its no wonder that the florist, herself and up-and-comer, attributes Kelly as a great mentor.
Kelly’s passion and flare for creativity in her work really did show through in the end product. The business is fresh on the Adelaide foodie scene but with over 20 years in the food industry, she’s got a few tricks under her belt and this latest venture is clear proof of that. We saw new takes on both savoury and sweets with mouth-watering delicacies such as cheesecake stuffed strawberries and vegan pates.
“I love that feeling of watching other people eat and enjoy the food,” says Kelly, still getting that rush from the pressure of the cook, “I still get that adrenaline rush, like today when it was all go go go, but I love it”. All of her hard work truly has paid off, and we’re sure that Nice Little Things will thrive as her quality food will satiate a hungry Adelaide market.
