When the chilly weather rolls in we need to be a bit creative about getting our seaside fix. No-one’s heading for a swim at this time of year - and if they are then you, my friend, can look on in comfort, sipping a hot takeaway coffee from C.R.E.A.M on Jetty Road, Brighton.
So wait. What’s bringing us to the beach this winter?
Wu-Tang Clan. That’s what.
In a stroke of hip hop coffee genius, owner Josh Hockey has made the acronym C.R.E.A.M from Wu-Tang Clan’s album his own - Changing Cash to Coffee Rules Everything Around Me. This is emblazoned across the coffee machine, which produces some fantastic specialty coffee by 5 Senses.
Add signature T-shirts, copper piping and concrete walls, prints of skating, 2Pac and Ice Cube, and this pretty bloody quickly shows itself as a standout set-up.
That’s even before we order the sandwiches.
There is something exceptional about the Donut Breakfast Sandwich. What an experience. Is it the potato rosti, the Californian red cheddar, the bacon? The donut? The whole lot? I don’t know. I recommend you get it, and let me know.
Better yet, go with friends who like to share and try a whole lot of sandwiches – all made with bread from Brighton Jetty Bakery. Cubanos is your ultimate Cuban sandwich, and the aptly named ODB (Ol’ Dirty Bastard) takes Southern fried chicken to another level.
You don’t have to be a badass to fit in here. As someone who nearly cried looking at puppies in the pet store on the way, I am one of the least badass people I know, so I can promise that anyone can come. My friends and I feel like way cooler people from being around the staff, who clearly just love hanging out. They tell us to ‘yell out’ if we need anything. If I could find a really relaxed, even more chill version of the term laid back, I would use it to describe this place. In entirely a good way.
If it’s not raining you can grab that take-away afterwards.
Wu-Tang is forever.
