Burgers by the beach? Yes please! Barry’s Burgers on Semaphore Road is a beachside burger joint you gotta add to your must-eat list. After reading through the stellar reviews on their taste, service and general vibe, we had to follow our tastebuds and check them out. We can safely say Barry’s receives 5/5 stars from us.
Semaphore locals, Alinta and Caitlin, opened Barry’s in November 2015 with the vision of creating a great summer pit stop with burgers and other beachside refreshments. “We get all our meat, buns and veg in fresh daily, grill to order and think you can taste this difference,” co-owner of Barry’s, Alinta, says. “We love burgers but don't like when you eat one then feel like you need to lay down! We aim to serve up food that leaves people feeling good.” Trust us, a burger from here will leave you feeling happy as Barry.
First up we’d like to introduce you to the Baz. A 100% grass-fed, preservative free beef patty, that’s been freshly made daily and never frozen, smothered in American cheese and paired with lettuce, tomato and mayo (um, drooling). The Baz Deluxe is the Baz’s big brother and features double smoked bacon, onion jam, rocket, and American cheese and Baz house made mayo on a 100% grass fed patty. The Staunch Deluxe is what the burger lover’s dreams are made of, we’re talking two 100% grass-fed beef patties, a double serve of the double smoked bacon, and extra American cheese.
Vegos rejoice – we ensured there were to-die-for veggie burgers and we tried them ourselves. Veggie #1 is filled with Portobello mushroom, haloumi cheese, roast pumpkin, rocket, zucchini ribbons, beetroot, and Baz house made lemon and dill mayo. While Veggie #2 features a house-made sweet potato, black bean and brown rice patty with beetroot relish, alfalfa sprouts, red onion, vegan mayo, Iceberg lettuce and tomato. Both are seriously good and a decent portion – they don’t leave you hungry, but don’t leave you needing to unbutton your pants upon leaving the restaurant. We paired them with some sweet potato chips for an utterly satisfying lunch, even if you aren’t vego you’d love them.
Barry’s lets you dine in with a view over bustling Semaphore Road with the beach lingering in the distance, or take away for a tasty lunch or dinner on the go. Fresh coconuts, cold beer and soft drink are available for you to wash down your burger – and did I mention that there are delicious raw cakes for dessert, oh yes.
All burgers come with a vegan, vegetarian or gluten free option - plus sauce and aioli is free (extra aioli is 50c). Kids don’t miss out at Barry’s; they’ve got the Junior Baz, a slider size 100% grass-fed beef patty with American cheese and sauce.
Barry’s has just launched a light breakfast menu with a few brekkie burgers and smoothie bowls. “We hope to eventually add coffee and fresh juice into the mix early next year,” Alinta says.
Barry is a man with a plan and that plan is to serve up fresh and tasty food that leaves you feeling good.
We like Barry’s plan - A lot.
