Sportivo Pizzeria & Cafe delivers some of the most spectacular waterfront dining in Adelaide. Overlooking the picturesque waters of West Lakes, this place supplies the very best of Mediterranean cuisine. Operated by the Panazzolo family, Sportivo is passionate about serving fresh, authentic and flavoursome meals. Head chef Catalin Borta is ardent about incorporating Mediterranean culture into South Australian food, “If I can reduce the gap between cultures and help South Australians experience authentic Italian and Mediterranean food, I will be happy”, he explains on their website.
This restaurant is renowned for its traditional thin based wood oven pizzas, earning them a finalist place for 'Best Pizza' in the 2013 Restaurant & Catering Awards for Excellence. Made in-house and with a variety of options to choose from, here are some of our favourites:
Romania: Red sauce, mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, pepperoni, capsicum, artichokes, olives, buffalo mozzarella and basil
Croce D’Oro: Red sauce, mozzarella, a combination of Italian sausages, wood oven mushrooms and caramelized onion
San Marco: Red sauce, mozzarella, chorizo sausage, diced tomatoes, Spanish onions, Gorgonzola, provolone cheese and chilli
Veneto Special: Red sauce, mozzarella, leg ham, Kalamata olives, chorizo sausage, pancetta, chilli and pecorino cheese
Their selection of pasta and risotto is just as good, and with almost fifteen dishes on offer it's a challenge to decide on just one. The classic Bolognese is always a winner, slow braised veal in a traditional tomato sauce paired with pasta of your choice. Other stand-outs include Penne Con Pollo, a rose sauce with chicken and mushroom, or Tagliatelle Puttanesca, napoletana sauce with chilli, olives, anchovies, red onion and capers. Sportivo is known for its seasonal seafood cooked to perfection, so the Spaghetti Marinara is a must try- a combination of prawns, calamari, mussels and octopus in a simple tomato sauce with fresh herbs. Their menu doesn’t stop at pizza and pasta, but features a number of other delicious meal options. Daily specials are also available.
You can also stop by to enjoy a barista-made coffee and one of their delectable desserts, and let me tell you, the apple cake and crème brulee are something special. Additionally, Sportivo uses their lakeside venue for private functions including weddings and corporate events. A view like that will certainly create a buzz amongst party guests. This place will soon look better than ever as they conduct major renovations over the Christmas period; stay tuned for the grand reveal in early 2017.
Nothing beats a summer’s sunset paired with great food and good company. Experience the inviting atmosphere, quality produce and alfresco dining for yourself and let the lovely team at Sportivo Pizzeria & Cafe take care of you.
