Zest Cafe Gallery offers a relaxed and casual dining experience. It’s the type of place where you keep coming back for consistent quality, reasonable prices and a soothing ambiance. A friend and I stumbled across this cafe almost five years ago, and I’ve been a regular visitor ever since. This cosy little hub is nestled in quiet Sussex Street Glenelg, just a few metres off Jetty Road.
Zest has been feeding Adelaide locals for over 15 years, supplying a generously sized menu and selection of beverages. Breakfast options include fresh fruit, muesli, croissants and a great variety of bacon and egg selections. A popular dish is their ‘zesty eggs’, poached eggs on Turkish toast with a seeded mustard and orange zest crème, finished off with a generous serving of smoked salmon. Eggs Benedict is another classic dish you can order, and it certainly does not disappoint. Oh, and did I mention they offer all day breakfast? That’s right; you can order their delectably fluffy pancakes any time of day.
Their lunch menu is just as varied and includes bruschetta, salads, baguettes, bagels and a personal favourite - the chilli chicken wrap. A roti wrap with spiced chicken, tomato, Spanish onion, sweet chilli and homemade mayo. It doesn’t get much better than that. For all the caffeine lovers who are wondering, yes, the coffee is phenomenal. Every time.
Zest Cafe Gallery is certainly on the smaller side in terms of venue size, however the combination of indoor and outdoor seating creates an open and refreshing area to enjoy. The venue also displays a collection of artwork on its walls that are available for sale, creating a visually pleasing space whilst supporting local artists. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy your breakfast on a lazy summer’s day.
This cafe is a standout within the Glenelg tourist hotspot, but let’s keep this one between us locals. Next time you find yourself hungry and near Jetty Road, be sure to check out this gem. You won’t regret it, and I can guarantee you’ll become a regular like me!
