Let's face it, with the weather is cooling down, the end of semester stress is at boiling point and the disappointment of not getting Splendour tickets means we all just need a little bit of happiness and sunshine in our lives. Oh and food! Lots of food!
Staying true to its name, Mister Sunshine's has heard our desperate cries and is ready and waiting to bring some sunshine into our lives, and by sunshine I mean a delicious brunch menu, quality coffee and irresistible sweet treats.
Located just West of the Adelaide CBD, Mister Sunshine's cannot be missed thanks to the large yellow umbrella and luscious greenery in the front courtyard. Inside, you will find an assortment of mismatched furniture from the 70's, retro hanging lights and paintings of mountain landscapes on the walls. Certainly different, but nonetheless utterly charming! Not to mention there is a 100% chance that you will be greeted with the biggest welcome and smile from owners Edwin Comey and Prue Olsen.
Smashed Avocado ($14) on Rye toast is a brunch classic, with nearly every cafe serving their own version. Mister Sunshine's Smashed Avo is hands down one of the best. Served with two thick slices of toasted light rye bread, a generous mountain of avo (generous but not ridiculous), a perfectly runny poached egg, and a dusting of flavoursome roasted almonds, pumpkin and sunflower seeds- adding an incredible nutty undertone to the whole dish.
Is there anything more comforting than the salty cheesy-taste of haloumi? I think not! The Haloumi Burger ($12) was certainly another winner. Served with earthy minced mushrooms, pickled cabbage, chill jam and peppery rocket; the flavours certainly worked together creating a well flavour balanced dish. Just a side note- be prepared to use your hands... this bad boy gets messy!
If you are a sweet tooth then please look no further than the The French toast ($13). Not only does it look impressive, this french toast is everything you want french toast to be. Two thick eggy slices of brioche are crowned by a sweet and juicy plum compote, a dollop of labne, and sprinkles of pistachios.
There is also a selection of delicious deserts available daily; the perfect accompaniment to their top quality coffee blend. For those who are already way to caffeinated to function there are also a variety juices, smoothies and other refreshments to choose from.
