A new café has hit the Eastern Suburbs, and it’s going to become one of its best spots. Blink and you’ll miss it, Uxbridge Café is nestled next to the Chelsea cinema on Kensington road and is just the kind of thing that area of town needs. On arrival I felt like I had rolled into a friend’s house – a friend that has ridiculously on point taste in décor and a coffee machine filling their home with the sensual scent of coffee. Wooden furniture and floorboards are accented with touches of metal, and a simple but stylish colour palette of black, white and timber. Gorgeous.
Uxbridge Kitchen also has the unique factor of a brilliant staff that is also a family – a legit blood-relative family. The matriarch, Stephanie, leads the staff as Head Chef, making everything that goes out of the kitchen herself. Her good looking, I mean, hard working sons join the staff along with other equally friendly and welcoming family members. The only thing better than supporting a small business has to be supporting a small family business.
Hopes were set high by the surroundings and staff, and thankfully were matched by great coffee and delicious food. The menu is delightfully simple, with all the favourites, complimented by the ever-changing offerings in the display cabinet at the counter. I had the breakfast roll with smoked bacon, KI free-range eggs and Stephanie’s homemade tomato chutney. After one of those, you better believe you’ll feel ready to tackle anything the day throws at you.
As a brunch enthusiast and self-proclaimed café aficionado (it’s a thing), I highly recommend this hidden gem on the east side for a quality breakfast, brunch or lunch with friends. The food is all fresh, using local produce, and made with the highly sought after ingredients of love and care. The family also have some special plans for an exciting new spot very nearby, so stay tuned for more.
Uxbridge Kitchen is at 269 Kensington Road, next to the Chelsea Cinemas. Check them out on Facebook and Instagram.
